MySql Metrics

Collect and ship MySql metrics to Logstash and Elasticsearch

Metricbeat is a lightweight shipper that helps you monitor your MySql database servers by collecting metrics running on the MySql server. Configure Metricbeat using the pre-defined examples below to collect and ship MySql database server metrics and statistics to Logstash or Elasticsearch.

Install Integration

Please click on the Install Integration button to configure your stack for this source.

Install Metricbeat

To get started first follow the steps below:

Older versions can be found here: metricbeat 7 (opens in a new tab), metricbeat 6 (opens in a new tab), metricbeat 5 (opens in a new tab)

Copy Configuration File

The configuration file below is pre-configured to send data to your Logit.io Stack via Logstash.

Copy the configuration file below and overwrite the contents of metricbeat.yml.

###################### Logit.io Metricbeat Configuration #######################

  # Glob pattern for configuration loading
  path: ${path.config}/modules.d/*.yml

  # Set to true to enable config reloading

  # Period on which files under path should be checked for changes
  #reload.period: 10s

Enable Module

There are several built-in metricbeat modules you can use. To enable the mysql module, run the following:

metricbeat modules list
metricbeat modules enable @module

Configure Module

Each module has its own configuration file where different metricsets can be enabled / disabled. Locate the configuration file for the mysql module.

/etc/metricbeat/modules.d/@module.yml

By default metricsets are disabled. To enable or disable a metric simply comment or uncomment the line out.

- module: mysql
  metricsets:
    - status
    - galera_status
  period: 10s

You will also need to enter the host location of the database and the username and password to access it.

# Host DSN should be defined as "user:pass@tcp(127.0.0.1:3306)/"
# The username and password can either be set in the DSN or using the username
# and password config options. Those specified in the DSN take precedence.
hosts: ["(127.0.0.1:3306)/"]

# Username of hosts. Empty by default.
username: root

# Password of hosts. Empty by default.
password: secret

Start Metricbeat

Start or restart Metricbeat (opens in a new tab) to apply the configuration changes.

Check Logit.io for your logs

Data should now have been sent to your Stack.

Compatibility

The mysql MetricSets were tested with MySQL and Percona 5.7 and 8.0 and are expected to work with all versions >= 5.7.0. It is also tested with MariaDB 10.2, 10.3 and 10.4.

MySQL Module Dashboard

The MySQL module comes with predefined Kibana dashboards. To view your dashboards for any of your Logit.io stacks, launch Logs and choose Dashboards.

MySQL Overview

MySQL is an open-source (opens in a new tab) relational database management system (RDBMS) that has gained widespread popularity for its reliability, performance, and ease of use.

It serves as a critical component for storing and managing data in various applications, including web services, content management systems, e-commerce platforms, and more.

MySQL metrics can encompass various aspects, such as query execution times, server resource utilization, throughput, and error rates.

Collecting these metrics involves the use of monitoring tools and software, which periodically gather data from MySQL servers and then ship it to a centralized location or analytics platform for analysis and visualization.

By implementing robust monitoring and metric collection processes by using a platform like Logit.io, organizations can proactively manage and optimize their MySQL databases, ensuring efficient performance, high availability, and the ability to scale as their data needs grow.

If you need any further assistance with migrating your data to Logit.io we're here to help you get started. Feel free to get in contact with our support team by sending us a message via live chat & we'll be happy to assist.
